The idea

Everyday workers trade their grey routines for the neon freedom of the pole.

The idea

Two worlds, one change

The idea started with a contrast. A builder on site, an office worker, a chef in the kitchen and an artist at the easel each carry the weight of the day in muted, everyday tones.

As the music builds, each of them steps into the studio and becomes a confident pole dancer, and the colour shifts with them, from washed-out grey to purple and pink neon. The film celebrates pole as a place where anyone can feel strong, sensual and free.

01 · Concept

Four characters, one turn

The treatment set up four everyday characters and the moment each one becomes a pole dancer, with the title itself sitting between both worlds: grey street, red neon.

Locations, costumes and music

We found a construction site, streets, a park and a kitchen near Sydney Pole, so both worlds could be filmed in two days. Augusto designed the costumes, and composer Brayden Fabris wrote an original track of about three minutes for the film.

03 · Shoot

Two days, five dancers

In August 2024 we filmed the everyday scenes on location and the dance scenes in the studio. Slow motion, Steadicam and handheld camera give each world its own rhythm.

Cut to the music

Peter Liszka and Augusto edited the film to the track, so each cut and each transformation lands on the music. The sound design brings in the grip of hands and skin on the pole.

The grade tells the story

Everyday scenes stay muted and cool. The studio scenes open up into purple, pink and red neon, so the change is something you feel before you notice it.
